Making use of organic food waste
There are a number of methods to help recylce food waste in your home. Here are a few examples:
Visit the Bokashi website
Visit the Worms Down Under website for more information on worm farms.
Coping with a surplus - Sometimes the six cucumber seedlings you planted ALL do really well and you have more than you can cope with …. don't despair, there are lots of tasty ways to utilise surplus produce.
Preserving/Drying – Ask another family member such as a grandparent or great aunty if they have any recipes they can share. Look for preserving ideas and recipes online.

Experimenting – Exploring beyond your own culture can reveal some innovative ways to prepare and preserve produce. Set yourself a challenge of finding a new way of utilising your crop each season.
Swap or Trade – swapping your fresh cucumbers with a neighbour who has an abundance of ripe tomatoes sounds like the beginnings of a great salad.
If you still have extra produce after trying the above ideas, add it to your home composting system to ensure the valuable nutrients from your soil are recycled ready for next years crop.
Food Preparation – If your cooking skills are a bit rusty then some hands on experience in the kitchen will give you the confidence and skills to prepare meals from your home grown produce.
Ask a friend – If you know someone who is competent in the kitchen consider asking them for some cooking tips. You could even make it a fun occasion and turn the results of your efforts into a dinner party for a few other friends as well… where you all bring a plate each to share (hopefully starring your own produce).
Community Kitchens – join a community kitchen and learn new skills with others. There is no common listing of community kitchens in the local region, however you can contact a community nutritionist if you would like more information.
